  Paul Gillette Memorial Writing Contest-Pikes Peak Writers Conference
  The contest is for unpublished writers, and covers Westerns/historicals, Childrens (8-12), Young Adult, Comtemporary Romance, Historical Romance, Science Fiction and Fantasy, Mainstream, Mystery/Suspense/Intrigue, Creative nonfiction (book length), and Screenplays. Entry fee is $20 per submission, with a one-page written critique option for a $35 entry fee. Cash prizes for top 3 finishers in each category. First place finishers in each category can choose to attend the Pikes Peak Writers Conference for no cost (registration fee) in exchange for cash prize.

  The Mona Schreiber Prize for Humorous Fiction and Non-Fiction
  The Mona Schreiber Prize for Humorous Fiction and Non-Fiction announces its first annual competition. Writers of comedic essays, articles, short stories, poetry, shopping lists and other forms are invited to submit. Works up to 750 words in length should be typed, double-spaced, accompanied by a money order or check for $5 to cover administrative costs, payable to "The Mona Schreiber Prize." Mona founded the Foster City (CA) Writers Contest, taught creative writing and published humorous work in newspapers and magazines. Her son Brad has founded the Prize and is judging the first year's submissions. He writes the humorous column "Development Hell" in L.A. weekly paper "Entertainment Today," has published books and worked in film, TV, stage, radio and teaches Humor Writing for the UCLA Writers' Program. All entries must be postmarked by December 1 for a December 24 announcement of three winners: 1st: $500. 2nd: $250. 3rd: $100. Entries are not returned. Humor is subjective. Uniqueness is suggested.
